We put together this module to control the hand held bar code scanners deployed in the warehouse. We chose to use Symbol PDT 6846 for wireless real-time information flow.
The scanners actually run a terminal emulation session to the server where the application is then activated.
The scanning system has functionality to control many of the basic warehouse functions and interoperates with the warehouse module. The basic functions include Receiving, Shipping, Inventory, and Inquiry. Some updates to item details can be made directly from the scanner.
The current version is compatible with standards from EAN/UCC, ISO, ANS MH 10.8.2, and some propretary labelling from IBM and North American Van Lines.
The Shipping/Receiving functions interface with the Dispatch module to update the planning and order status.
The Inventory functions interface with the customer web site sending updates in real-time.
Note: the PDT 6846 has been replaced by the MC9000G.
